Open call: Photography Competition
What does Sandwell mean to you?
We’re hosting a photography competition! Selected images will be printed and displayed in the Sandwell Pride of Place Project at BLAST! Festival. For The Sandwell Pride of Place exhibition, artists Jan Williams and Chris Teasdale of The Caravan Gallery will turn a shop unit in West Bromwich into a temporary exhibition space / alternative visitor centre with the help of Sandwell residents.
Winners of the AMA Creative Champion of the Year Award 2006, The Caravan Gallery document the reality and surreality of contemporary every-day life. In 2015 and 2016 The Caravan Gallery undertook a national Pride of Place Project Tour which saw them partnering with six galleries and museums across England and Wales, collaborating with local people on an exploration of regional identity. The Sandwell Pride of Place Project will bring the same spirit of co-creation to Sandwell residents, inviting you to contribute to the exhibition with your own words and images. This exhibition will be a creative celebration of Sandwell and its communities, growing daily as visitors add to the artwork and ephemera on display, share stories and make a mark on The People’s Map of Sandwell.
The Photography Competition is open to anyone living in Sandwell. Jan and Chris are looking for photos with “interesting and unusual observations”, showing Sandwell in “all its authentic, multifaceted splendour”. Prizes will be given for the best image in various categories, and entries will be featured in the exhibition, which will remain open in West Bromwich throughout the festival.
Competition closed.
